A. M. Rathnam is producing an untitled action thriller film, written and directed by Gautham Menon. The film features Ajith Kumar in dual roles and Anushka ShettyArun Vijay and Trisha Krishnan in Other pivotal roles, while Dan Macarthur is the film's cinematographer. The film's soundtrack and background music is being composed by Harris Jayaraj.The film has been referred to in the media as Thala 55,[3] while another potential title Sathya has also been reported.[4] The film is expected to be released in November 2014.[5] The film's teaser is expected in September.


In October 2013, producer A. M. Rathnam signed up Ajith Kumar for another film following the success of their collaboration in Arrambam (2013) and soon after director Gautham Menon was also attached to the project.[6] Sridhar Raghavan, who wrote the script for the 2011 Hindi film Dum Maaro Dum, was also signed by the team to assist Gautham Menon with film's script.[7] Anushka Shetty was signed on by the team to play the lead role, despite early suggestions that Pallavi Subhash had been selected for the film.[8] ActressesTrisha Krishnan and Amy Jackson were also reported to be approached by Gautham Menon to play another female lead role.[9][10] Prior to the official announcement of the cast, several actors were linked to portray the role of the antagonist in the film including Karthik and Prashanth.[11] Actors AadhiArun Vijay and Arvind Swamy were also reported to form a part of the cast, though the latter denied signing the film.[12][13] By mid-April, sources reported that Arun Vijay was confirmed for the project and had started shooting for it.[14] Harris Jayaraj was signed on as composer, reuniting with Menon after a six year break,[a] despite early speculations that A. R. Rahman would work on the film.[16] EarlierAnirudh Ravichander had hinted about himself working in the film.[17]
A. M. Rathnam issued an official statement confirming that the film would be launched on 9 April 2014 and a ceremony was thereafter held to mark the beginning of the project.[18]The first filming schedule subsequently began on 11 April near the VGP Universal Kingdom theme park near Chennai.[19] On 18 April 2014, actor Vivek announced that he joined the cast, collaborating with Gautham Menon after the director's first venture Minnale (2001).[20] Bangalore based Amit Bhargav stated that he was part of the film in which he would be playing the role of Anushka's beau.[21] The first schedule was completed after twelve days of shooting in Chennai.[22] The second schedule began shooting on 14 May.[23] On 15 May 2014, Trisha was added to the cast.[24] Shooting will also take place in Malaysia for more than ten days.[25] On 10 June 2014, it was announced that the film would wrap up after 60 days of shoot remaining and would be sent to post production after that.[5]
